EGM Events – a chance for you to find out more

An Extraordinary General Meeting will take place on Thursday 11 January 2018. Ballot information has been circulated to all Voting Members by post and email, and an announcement was made on our website last week.

To help you better understand why the EGM is happening, and to have an opportunity to ask questions directly to Council members and the executive team a range of events – online and offline – will take place between now and 4 January 2018.

If you’re an IChemE member, you can  register for any of the events or webinars. A full list of the various meetings can be found at the bottom of this post.

This is an important phase in our Institution’s history – we urge you to take part.

So, why has IChemE’s Council tabled Motion 1?

The motion tabled by Council will allow for continued delivery of the work programmes that are being developed as part of our 2022 Strategy.

Through listening to our members, we have recognised that improvements to IChemE’s governance can, and should, be made.

That’s why, early in 2016, we embarked on a Governance Review. In December 2016, and in August 2017, many members contributed to the process, and based on their input a range of significant changes are currently under development.

Subject to approval by the UK’s Engineering Council in early 2018, revisions to our Institution’s Charter and By-Laws will be will be considered at the next AGM in May 2018. These changes will carry with them greater transparency, accountability, and representation – and build upon our proud heritage. The proposed changes will also enhance member engagement at all levels, while safeguarding the Royal Charter and maintaining our charitable status.

By supporting Motion 1, you are supporting bringing the modernisation of IChemE’s governance to a conclusion. This is a carefully considered strategy, with member representation at the forefront, resulting in a positive and open future for IChemE.

Why should I vote?

Issues of governance within IChemE is a hot topic of conversation at the moment, and we’re delighted to see the passion from the profession towards their professional body. However, there is a lot of information out there. We want to ensure you have an accurate understanding of the overarching principles, so that you are fully informed before casting your vote.

These events provide a real chance for our professionally qualified members to make their voices heard, and directly question members of Council and our Senior Management team.

This is your Institution – led by members, supporting members and serving society.

So take a look below at the various events, register if you can, listen to all the information carefully, and vote for the motion that you think will best secure the future of your Institution, and the advancement of the profession.
