Chemical engineering research matters (Day 245)

As an academic, I know that chemical engineering matters in the research space. And IChemE recognises the importance of forums and meetings where chemical engineering researchers can share their work with their peers.

One such important UK research meeting for chemical engineers is the annual ChemEngDayUK conference.

This event brings together researchers, engineers and scientists from chemical engineering departments across the UK to showcase their latest technological advances and research to leading experts within the field.

There is also specific emphasis placed on collaboration between academia and industry.

In 2015, the third annual ChemEngDayUK conference will hosted by the chemical and biological engineering department at the University of Sheffield.

Previously, this event has been held at Imperial College London in 2013 and the University of Manchester in 2014, and it's certainly safe to say that it's getting bigger and better each year!

This year's conference, to be held on 8-9 April at Sheffield City Hall, will feature invited speakers and poster presentations under the following themes:

• Water and food security
• Meeting the sustainable energy demand
• Materials innovation
• Biological engineering
• Increased manufacturing value
• Chemical engineering education, outreach and training

Promoting the chemical engineering research agenda is an important part of IChemE’s work. There are some exciting things happening, both in the academic space and in industry where knowledge exchange is vital.

IChemE's commitment and support to the research space is outlined in Chemical Engineering Matters and is highlighted as a top priority action for the institution. That's why the ChemEngDayUK 2015 conference is such an important date in my diary this year.

For those researchers across the UK who want to present a poster at this conference, the abstract submission deadline closes on 1 February 2015, so there's only a few days left!

The conference also attracts high profile plenary speakers, which this year includes the previous chief executive of Royal Dutch Shell, Jeroen van der Veer, and professor Ray Allen from the University of Sheffield.

Having attended this conference since its inauguration in 2013, I am looking forward to the high quality and variation of research that will be presented.

It is also a great opportunity to meet with my academic peers and discuss what the chemical engineering research landscape looks like, now and in the future.

I will be blogging about the event, the research efforts, technologies and visions that will be presented. ChemEngDayUK is definitely a space to share chemical engineering good news stories with each other and beyond.
